Workwear Wash Approval: Measurements and Acceptance Records

Originally published 2026-04-18 · Editorial revision 2026-10-17

For a made-to-order garment, agree the intended care process, measurement points and acceptance criteria before evaluating a washed sample. Keep the sample identity and measured results together.

Editorial revision: the earlier cost-saving calculation, fixed shrinkage and wash-cycle limits, protective-compliance conclusions and supplier-brand recommendations were removed. Supporting project results were not available. This page proposes a planning process; it is not a test report or verified customer case.

Start with the actual care requirement

Ask the buyer to identify the expected laundry process and any required test method and edition. Agree who will prepare and test the samples, which components will be included, and what report will be supplied. Record unresolved requirements before approving production.

Define the measurements before testing

  • Identify the sample, size, fabric lot and approved specification version.
  • Mark each measurement point and agree the measurement procedure.
  • Record the initial measurements, care conditions and number of cycles actually completed.
  • Record the final measurements and the calculation used for change.
  • Record appearance observations, including seams, trims and matching garment parts.

Do not substitute a general article threshold for the order's acceptance criteria. This guide does not prescribe a universal percentage change, number of washes or finishing process.

Separate the result from the release decision

A useful record identifies what was tested, the results, the agreed criterion and the person authorizing acceptance or corrective action. Identify which sizes and materials the decision covers and whether a changed fabric, component or care process needs another review.

Where protective performance is required

Request documentation for the exact garment, intended use and applicable requirements. This measurement checklist does not establish flame resistance, chemical protection or compliance with a protective-clothing standard.

Discuss your custom order

Share your technical pack or sample and the intended care process. Prepare an OEM or ODM enquiry and use the blank inspection planning worksheet to list the records you need.
